Ajahn Brahm is the abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery in Western Australia and one of the most popular English-language Theravada teachers in the world. A Cambridge theoretical-physics graduate before his ordination under Ajahn Chah, he became spiritual director of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia and is renowned as a teacher of jhāna meditation.
In 2009 he led the bhikkhuni ordination of four nuns in Perth, an act for which Wat Pah Pong formally severed institutional ties with him. His advocacy for the restoration of the bhikkhuni sangha continues to define a fault line in contemporary Forest tradition.
