Privacy policy.

The Promised Studios is built for a long-term, sacred relationship with its members. We treat your data with the care that relationship requires. This document tells you exactly what we collect, what we do with it, and what we will never do with it.

What we collect

When you create an account with The Promised Studios we collect: your name, your email address, and your password (hashed). At checkout we collect your billing address, your shipping address, and the last four digits of your payment instrument. We do not store full card numbers — payment is tokenised through a PCI-compliant processor (Stripe).

When you watch content, listen to audio, or read text, we record what you have opened, how long you stayed, and whether you completed the item. This drives your library, your “continue watching” surface, and your recommendations.

When you join the Sangha, we record which monastery channel you have subscribed to and your tradition preference. We do not record a religious affiliation as a categorical fact — only the channels you have opened.

When you contact us, the message and any attachments are stored alongside your account for up to thirty-six months.

02

What we do not collect

We do not collect, infer, or store: your sexual orientation, your political affiliation, your immigration status, or your biometric data. We do not buy data from brokers. We do not track you across the open internet — there is no third-party advertising pixel on any page of The Promised Studios.

We do not run engagement-maximising algorithms designed to extend session time at the cost of attention. Recommendation weights are tuned for completion, not for retention. If we cannot recommend something, we leave you alone.

03

What we share

Your name and tradition preference are shared with the monastery you have explicitly subscribed to — this allows the monastery to address you correctly during ceremonies that include subscribers. Your address, payment information, and viewing history are never shared with monasteries.

Your purchase shipping address is shared with the artisan or fulfilment partner only to the extent required to deliver the order. Once delivery is confirmed, the address is purged from the partner system within ninety days.

We will respond to lawful requests from law-enforcement authorities in the jurisdictions where we operate (Nepal, Singapore, the United States, India). We publish an annual transparency report listing the number of such requests received and the number complied with.

04

How long we keep data

Account information: as long as your account is active, plus thirty months after deletion for legal and tax retention.

Viewing and listening history: as long as your account is active. You can purge this at any time in Profile → Settings → Privacy without affecting your subscription.

Payment information: limited to tokenised receipts for tax retention (seven years in India, seven years in the United States, ten years in Singapore — the longest applicable jurisdiction).

Contact correspondence: thirty-six months from the last response.

05

Your rights

You may, at any time and without justification: download a full export of your data, correct inaccurate information, delete your account, withdraw your consent to processing for non-essential purposes, and lodge a complaint with the supervising authority in your jurisdiction.

For users in the European Union and the United Kingdom, the rights guaranteed under the GDPR and the UK GDPR apply in full. For users in California, the rights guaranteed under the CCPA and the CPRA apply. For users in India, the rights guaranteed under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 apply.

06

Children

The Promised Studios is not directed at children under thirteen. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under thirteen. If you believe a child under thirteen has provided us with personal information, please write to privacy@thepromisedstudios.com and we will delete it.

07

Changes to this policy

When we update this policy in a material way — adding a new data category, sharing with a new class of partner, extending retention — we will notify you by email at least thirty days before the change takes effect. You can review prior versions of this policy in our public policy archive.
