Life and lineage

Ajahn Amaro is abbot of Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in England, succeeding Ajahn Sumedho. Trained under Ajahn Chah in Thailand and Ajahn Sumedho in England, he co-founded Abhayagiri Monastery in California with Ajahn Pasanno in 1996 and led it for fifteen years before returning to Amaravati. His teaching draws on a deep ecumenical reading across Theravada, Zen, and Vajrayana — particularly through his long friendship with Tsoknyi Rinpoche.
