Life and lineage

Zhuangzi is the second great patriarch of Taoism and the author of the eponymous Zhuangzi, a work of philosophical fable, paradox, and ecstatic freedom. Where Laozi is spare and oracular, Zhuangzi is playful and subversive, dismantling rigid categories of self, death, and usefulness. His dream of the butterfly and his parable of the useless tree remain central images of spiritual liberation in the Taoist canon.
