HH the 41st Sakya Trichen is one of the most senior living Tibetan Vajrayana masters and was the head of the Sakya school for fifty-eight years (1959–2017), the longest tenure of any Sakya throne-holder in history. He stepped back from administrative leadership in 2017 in favour of his son Ratna Vajra Rinpoche (the 42nd) and now teaches under the title Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche.
He holds the complete Lamdré transmission and is famously English-fluent, with decades of teaching across the West. The catalog distinction between his current public title (Sakya Gongma Trichen, see existing entry) and his canonical lineage seat (the 41st Sakya Trichen) is preserved here for completeness; both refer to the same person at different points of his throne tenure.
