Master Cheng Yen is the founder of the Tzu Chi Foundation, one of the largest Buddhist humanitarian organisations in history, with operations in over fifty countries and a 24/7 broadcast operation through Da Ai TV. Ordained as a disciple of the great scholar-monk Yin Shun, she founded Tzu Chi in 1966 and has built it into a global movement combining medical aid, disaster relief (notably in Nepal after the 2015 earthquake), education, and environmental work. She is one of the most consequential living figures in engaged Buddhism.
