Mahasi Sayadaw was the architect of the modern Burmese vipassana revival and the originator of the noting technique that bears his name. He was the principal teacher of Sayadaw U Pandita (and through him of Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, and the entire IMS lineage). His Manual of Insight is one of the foundational documents of contemporary insight meditation.
