Joseph Goldstein is the co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society (1976), the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, and the Forest Refuge — a triad of institutions that defined the Western Insight movement. Trained in India under Anagarika Munindra and S.N. Goenka, and later under Sayadaw U Pandita, his Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Awakening is the most thorough modern English exposition of the Satipatthāna Sutta.
