John Daido Loori

John Daido Loori Roshi was the founding abbot of Zen Mountain Monastery in the New York Catskills and the architect of the Eight Gates of Zen training matrix that integrates zazen with the arts, body practice, work practice, and academic study. A photographer and a Marine before his Zen ordination, he received transmission from Maezumi Roshi and built one of the most distinctive American Zen training environments.
