Life and lineage

The 12th Gyalwang Drukpa is the spiritual head of the thousand-year-old Drukpa Kagyu lineage, the state lineage of Bhutan. Recognised at age two by HH the 16th Karmapa and HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, he is known globally for the Live to Love humanitarian movement and for the legendary Kung Fu Nuns of Druk Amitabha Mountain, his Kathmandu nunnery, who train in martial arts as part of their monastic education.

Druk Amitabha Mountain on the western edge of the Kathmandu Valley is one of the five institutional anchors physically tied to The Promised Studios' geography. Gyalwang Drukpa has led record-setting Pad Yatra walking pilgrimages across the Himalayas, advocates publicly for gender equality in Buddhism, and has been honoured by the United Nations for environmental and humanitarian leadership.
