Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche is the yangsi — the immediate reincarnation — of the great twentieth-century master HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, one of the most revered Nyingma masters of the modern era and the principal teacher to HH Trulshik Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, and an entire generation of Vajrayana teachers.
The Yangsi was recognised at the age of three by HH Trulshik Rinpoche, and was enthroned at Shechen Tennyi Dargyeling, the seat his predecessor re-established at Boudhanath after the loss of the original Shechen Monastery in Tibet in 1959. He has been raised and trained under the personal supervision of HH Trulshik Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Tulku Pema Wangyal Rinpoche, Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, and Jigme Khyentse Rinpoche — many of them direct students of the previous Dilgo Khyentse.
The Yangsi completed traditional studies at Shechen Monastery and at Dzongsar Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö Institute in Bir, and has received the Rinchen Terdzö, the Nyingma Kahma, the Düjom Tersar, and a substantial portion of the Khyentse tradition's transmissions. He has begun to teach publicly with the encouragement of his senior tutors.
He is a quiet, scholarly figure, in a tradition known for very large public personalities. His relationship to the great masters who taught his predecessor — the previous Khyentse appears in archival video with HH the 16th Karmapa, HH Dudjom Rinpoche, and the rest of the founding exile generation — gives his presence a particular weight.
The Yangsi accepts a small number of applications for personal time per year, primarily routed through Shechen and through Khyentse Foundation. The cadence is rare. The wait is long. The traditional approach is to study deeply with one of the senior holders of the Khyentse lineage before requesting time with the Yangsi.
