Brad Warner is an American Sōtō Zen teacher in the Gudo Nishijima Roshi lineage and one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Western Zen. A former bassist for the punk band Zero Defex, he writes accessibly and irreverently about Zen practice for an audience well beyond the usual dharma readership. Hardcore Zen (2003) and Don't Be a Jerk (a contemporary translation-and-commentary on Dōgen's Shōbōgenzō) are his best-known works.
