B. Alan Wallace is a former Gelug monk, Stanford-trained scholar of religious studies, and one of the most prolific Western interpreters of shamatha and Dzogchen in the contemporary contemplative-science conversation. He founded the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies and the Shamatha Project, the largest contemplative-neuroscience study of focused-attention training to date.
