Day 47. The streak is no longer the point. What I notice now is how the body knows the cushion before my mind does. There is a kind of memory beneath thought. I am beginning to trust it.
I leave for the Royal Thai Monastery in Lumbini in three weeks. Six months. I have never sat longer than a 10-day Vipassana. What did you wish you had brought on your first long retreat? What did you wish you had left behind?
Forty days. The streak feels like a small mercy. Most mornings the cushion finds me before I find it. The rest of the day, the practice goes underground. I think this is how it is supposed to work.
I gave notice last Friday. Twelve years building software. The work was good. The pace was killing me. I begin a six-month sabbatical at the Royal Thai Monastery in Lumbini in three weeks. Not running. Just walking somewhere else for a while.
