Three hermits at Taktsang

Photographed three cave hermits this week. Two had been in retreat for years. One for decades. Their faces were not what I expected — not serene in the postcard way. They were alive in a way I have not seen in my city friends. Their eyes were not closed to the world. They were wide open to it.

Pilgrimage

Photographed a wandering yogi at Punakha Dzong. He had been walking for nine years. He had no map. He said: "The path knows where I am going." I am still thinking about this.
