Clearly understanding this excellence of heedfulness, the wise exult therein and enjoy the resort of the Noble Ones.

The wise, the Buddha says, do not endure heedfulness — they exult in it. The verse notes something practitioners eventually discover: attention is not a discipline imposed on a reluctant subject. It is the underlying condition in which the subject becomes pleasurable to itself. The "resort of the Noble Ones" — ariyānaṃ gocaro — is the field where this state can be found. Not a geography but a state of practice. The teaching: heedfulness, properly cultivated, is its own reward, not its own burden.
