Day 12 · Yamakavagga (Pairs), v.12

Those who know the essential to be essential and the unessential to be unessential, dwelling in right thoughts, do arrive at the essential.

Pali
Sārañca sārato ñatvā, asārañca asārato;
Te sāraṃ adhigacchanti, sammāsaṅkappagocarā.
Commentary

The corrective to the previous verse. Same architecture; the variable that changes is perception. The verse does not promise effort; it promises that with accurate perception, the walking gets one somewhere. The Buddha continues to insist that the inner question is not strength but clarity. Those who see the categories correctly arrive — not because they tried harder, but because they were facing the right direction the whole time.
